and equipment that can help in screening for dyslexia and in aleviating
problems (available from Orthoscopics outlets).
Screening
Test: This 25 question test allows a quick screening for visual
dyslexia. A small booklet accompanies the test. It is suitable
for parents or class teachers
CD ROM
– Visual Dyslexia Assessment Module: An interactive assessment.
Some other tests are advised within the cd rom but they are not
essential. Basic knowledge is advisable (e.g. book-signs symptoms
and assessment). A letter of referral can be generated. Suitable
for knowledgeable parents and teachers. Psychologists, optometrists,
orthoptists, opticians, doctors and other professionals may also
find this cd useful.
Visual
tracking magnifiers I / II: Winner millennium product award,
runner up John Logie Baird award for medical and educational innovation.
Used properly these simple devices immediately stop many of the
symptoms of visual dyslexia. They are used for screening or treatment.
Every school should use these! Suitable for parents, teachers,
optical professionals.
Reversal
and Inversion test: This often-dramatic test will demonstrate
many visual perceptual problems such as reversal of letters, reversal
of colours, diplopia due to target, disappearance of central targets,
shut down of peripheral vision. It may be used in conjunction
with the optimeyes task light. It is suitable for trained teachers,
trained optical professionals or doctors. DO NOT BUY THIS WITHOUT
TRAINING
Pattern
glare screening test: This simple test will allow a teacher
to determine whether the text and lighting are causing difficulties.
Should be used with the Optim-Eyes task light and visual tracking
magnifiers. Training is advised.
The T test:
This test will often give dramatic results. Visual plane disturbances,
difficulties in mid line crossing and fusional difficulties can
be demonstrated. Must be used with the Optim-Eyes task light and
by trained personnel. Suitable for trained teachers and trained
optical professionals.
The Optim-Eyes
task light: This amazing light has already shown some of the
most dramatic effects in optical and perceptual problems. It has
the ability to change the balance of the retinal cones cells with
a high degree of accuracy and as a consequence many new phenomena
are coming to attention. A subject can see the letters change
shape and position whilst viewing (sequential memory is not involved),
words will move to different positions whilst viewing, spatial
perception will change, muscle balance alters, hearing and balance
are affected, suppression of backgrounds are modified, squints
change immediately etc….. Many of the problems associated with
dyslexia will resolve immediately with the light! Suitable for
trained teachers, parents. Optical professionals require a higher
level of assessment - the Read eye.
