Optopraxometer launched at Optrafair
Optrafair
2003 saw the launch of a controversial new technology that is
expected to change prescribing patterns significantly.
Optician
Ian Jordan has spent the past five years developing the Optopraxometer
which he believes will enable the visual system to be approached
in a completely new way.
“While
we prescribe refractive correction we have been unable to assess
the perceptual problems experienced by a high proportion of patients.
We know that many conditions have a perceptual component and if
this is corrected the symptoms experienced can be alleviated,”
said Ian Jordan.
Developed
in conjunction with Norville Autoflow, the Optopraxometer is predicted
to provide enhanced prescribing insight for migraine, asthenopia,
muscle balance difficulties, dyslexia, dyspraxia, Aspergers Syndrome,
depression, ADD, ADHD, computer fatigue, anisometropia and many
other conditions affected by perceptual difficulties.
The
system, which is based around the effects of tint and filter prescribing,
allows the recreation of the most common lighting environments
with a computer emulator with varying flicker rates.
