SOLVING
THE PROBLEMS OF VISUAL DYSLEXIA
BY COLOUR CORRECTION
A step by step guide to identifying and counteracting
the causes of your child's reading difficulties.
Ask your child’s
school whether they have anyone trained to take a vision perception
screening. They will undertake a battery of screening tests and,
if necessary, refer you.
If the school
does not have a trained specialist in visual dyslexia then you
should ask your optician for help. They will undertake either
a screening or a full assessment in addition to the full eye examination.
There will normally be a charge for this service as it is not
currently covered by the NHS. If they cannot undertake the assessments,
ask them to refer you to an optician who is able to perform them.
There may be provision for payment of the fees incurred from your
school or LEA or other sources. Ask for advice.
The visual
processing assessment.
An eye examination
is required initially, then the patient is asked detailed questions
about their visual perception and other matters. Some tests will
be undertaken to determine to see how the patient sees colour,
space and movement, and how the patient's eyes change depending
on stimulus etc. A substantial report will be generated to enable
the patient to get the most appropriate perceptual treatment.
The optician
will advise you on the most appropriate course of action. Including
the eye examination, you will be at the optician's clinic for
at least an hour.
